PE Funding

DSCN1031 (2)

PE and school sport play a very important part in our life at Plymtree C or E primary school. We believe that PE provides children with:

  • A lifelong positive attitude to exercise and a healthy lifestyle
  • Increased understanding of our Christian values of respect, friendship and achievement
  • Opportunities for sportsmanship, fair play and equality for all
  • Physical skills for sporting opportunities across their Primary education and beyond
  • An opportunity to experience success beyond the academic area

Our overall aim is to raise standards in PE and school sport, increasing participation and opportunities offered to our children. We aim to provide higher quality lessons and improve learning for all. This means coaching for teachers as well as children so staff are well prepared to teach a wide range of sports skills.

On 17th July 2017 the Department for Education confirmed that the Primary PE and Sport Premium will double from September 2017.

For Plymtree this allocation  will be £16,690. See summary of planning for the use of the PE Sport Premium below. The impact on the use of this funding will be reviewed in April 2018.

Impact of P.E. funding

  • The whole school has benefitted from implementing the new Real P.E.  scheme. This has provided consistency in the planning, teaching and assessment of P.E.
  • Teachers have benefitted from training from P.E. specialists.
  • Recent appointments have included staff with P.E. as a specialism and coaching qualifications in order to deliver quality extra curricular provision.
  • In years 2 and 3  37% participate in sport clubs in school and 41% have represented the school in team events across the county. 70% of these year groups participate in sporting activities outside school.
  • Of the years 4/5/6 pupils 85% participate in 1 or more clubs during lunchtimes or after school. 100% have represented the school in 3 or more activities. 92% of this group are actively involved in a range of sports outside school, including: football, rugby, cricket, swimming, equestrian sports and martial arts.
