Meet Itegekwanande J. Jacques

Itegekwanande lives in Rwanda, Africa. He was born on 17th January 2012. His home duties include running errands and he attends Sunday school and church regularly. He attends school and he is a good student with an average performance!

More specifically Itegekwanande lives in the mountainous community of Bigutu, home to 3,700 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt or cement floors, wood, mud or brick walls and corrugated tin roofs. The ethnic group is Banyarwanda and the spoken language is Kinyarawanda. The regional diet consists of maize, beans, rice, milk, sweet potatoes and potatoes. Common health problems in this area include malaria. Most adults work as day labourers, animal herders, subsistence farmers or in domestic services and earn the equivalent of £11.00 per month. This community needs scholastic materials, school tuition assistance and improved farming methods.

The charity works with the staff of ADEPR Bigutu Student Centre to give children like Itegekwanande access to Bible teaching, choir, health screenings, hygiene and nutrition education, supplementary food, recreational activities and extra tuition. The charity also supports parents and families with child development training and Bible teaching.

Itegekwanande is the third child from Rwanda that Plymtree Church has been able to sponsor through Compassion.
